Those Who Throw Milestones…

So… as I sit to type this live on the blog, the hit counter is at 29,999. To paraphrase from classic Doctor Who, this moment has been prepared for…

30000-blog-hits

Over the weekend I prepared the above simple animation, knowing the milestone would probably happen early this week.  Truth be told, this probably would have happened in January but the combination of illnesses and some Internet outages took away from my normal stream of visitors. I didn’t lose any followers (thank you all!) during those times but I did obviously lose hits those days when I hadn’t posted new nonsense.

I’ve continued the tradition of building upon the first animation I made when I hit the 10,000 hit milestone… then again at 20,000. Will I keep doing this?  Who knows. I kind of like keeping the aspect of where-I-came-from by continually building on what came before for each new milestone.

Meanwhile… some less celebrated, but still occurring, milestones…  I have over 975 posts on the blog now. Sometime in the next couple of weeks I will make the 1000th post on the blog. I’ll try and pay attention and do something special for that. That’s a lot of blogging in about 2.5 years!  Also of note… at some point this past week I reached 650 episodes of my comic strip ‘Sects on the blog. I’ve had a lot of skipped days, some will be revisited, or that count could have been higher.  Again, lots of nonsense from me the last couple of years! 🙂

I would like to take this moment to thank everyone who follows, and everyone who visits regularly. You give me encouragement to keep the nonsense going. Thank you!  Also thank you to everyone who randomly stops by irregularly… one day I’ll ensnare you in my web of nonsense! 😉

Collecting the Recently Retro-Posted ‘Sects Episodes…

As promised when I returned from my week-long absence due to illness and lack of Internet… I’ve been catching up and trying not to flood too much in the process. All the episodes of ‘Sects from the past week or so are up now, but all were retro-posted. This means that they were back-dated to make it easier for finding them in the archives, but harder to find as new posts for my followers who just use their WordPress Reader.

To make things easier, below are links to all of the recently retro-posted episodes in case you haven’t seen a new cartoon since last Tuesday’s (02/07/2017) episode:

‘Sects Wednesday 02/08/2017
‘Sects Thursday 02/09/2017
‘Sects Friday 02/10/2017

‘Sects Monday 02/13/2017
‘Sects Tuesday 02/14/2017
‘Sects Wednesday 02/15/2017
‘Sects Thursday 02/16/2017

Read all those, and you’re all caught up! There was no Sunday comic last week as that was the height of my sickness… and I skipped Friday this week to get back on schedule so I will be posting a Saturday episode this week instead that will go up very shortly. Thanks again for the patience, and I hope everyone enjoys catching up on my nonsense! 🙂

Post #700 and the New Theme!

So, I knew this was coming a week or two ago when I started paying attention to my hit counter… and I also noticed I was coming close to my 700th post on the blog. It just kind of worked out that my actual 700th post on the blog is this one, in which I’m talking about making my 700th post. I am the hand that draws itself! (Dropping mad MC Escher references, yo!)

On an unrelated note, I’m having intermittent problems with WordPress not properly pushing my blog posts to my Facebook page. It happened back in February for a day or so and magically self-corrected. Now, as was the case then, I had to manually share some posts to get them there, but most irritating are the already pushed posts that just spontaneously disappear and reappear. I hope they sort this out once and for all!

Meanwhile, all that glitchy fun prompted me to look at my site design. I decided the Twenty-Twelve theme was getting a little stale so I wanted a change. I spent some time the other night browsing, and liked the look of this Retro-Fitted theme. What I didn’t realize was that it was going to trash all of my previously submitted headers… but that’s okay because I needed some new ones anyway and the old ones wouldn’t have scaled properly to this new theme. Look for more random headers to show up (wait for it) randomly as I create them. For now, I hope you’ll enjoy the new ‘Sects oriented one that features virtually every major character that has appeared in that comic strip so far!

The next major milestone will be when I hit two years of blogging at the end of this July. Sometime before that I’ll blow past 800 total posts and should pass 500 ‘Sects episodes. I need to pay attention to that ‘Sects milestone and see if I can’t come up with something special for that one at least.

As always, thank you to all my fans and followers for jumping aboard and hanging on! Thank you also to the new friends I’ve made as well. I hope to keep growing and expanding, and perhaps even diversifying a bit more in the months to come as I stretch into new areas and try new styles.

‘Sects and the Single Blogger

With less than minimal fanfare, this past Thursday was the 200th episode of ‘Sects! The path there was comprised of 174 dailies and 26 Sunday editions. It really doesn’t seem that long ago that I was celebrating the 100th episode. As I contemplate this milestone, I am pleased by many things.

I am as excited about this comic strip today as I was 200 episodes ago. That doesn’t mean the ideas always come easily, but even in times of writer’s block, I can’t wait to dive into creating the next episode. I also take frequent peeks back at older stories, and I find that most of them hold up against what I’m doing today. It’s nice for me to see that the earliest ideas I posted when I was less confident about the comic are now ones I can look back upon and be proud of posting.

Meanwhile, another anniversary happened today. I made my first post of any kind on this blog back on July 25, 2014. It’s hard to believe I’ve been at this for a whole year now! When I first started, I had a completely different comic strip, From Where I Sit, that actually helped get me a guest invitation at a local comic book convention. I still have some unpublished stories from this comic strip as well as other ideas that I hope to get back to eventually. This comic strip actually passed 100 episodes itself before I put it on the back-burner to go full-steam-ahead with ‘Sects.

In between then and now, I’ve also posted other random things that I’ve drawn along with some funny (or at least things I thought were funny) bits of prose. I also have another comic strip, Fringe Kisses, that has itself ran for 50 episodes as a random single-panel gag cartoon.

In totality, this blog has over 400 posts encompassing all the comic strips and other things I’ve blogged so far. It’s only fitting that nearly half of them belong to my current comic strip, ‘Sects, since I’m perhaps the most proud of it out of anything I’ve done on my site.

So, as I begin the second year of blogging… I hope everyone who has found me and followed me so far has enjoyed most of what I’ve been doing. Thank you to everyone who found me early and has stuck with me… thank you to all my newest followers who continue to find me somehow in the rat maze of the Internet… and thank you to everyone who helps spread the word around and keeps telling people to check out all my online nonsense!

I hope to continue bringing you more, and better things… and possibly a few good surprises in the weeks and months to come!

The Hits Keep on Coming!

I knew it was coming this weekend… just not when, and I still do not know by whom… but in celebration of my 10,000th blog hit I created a special animation for you.

10000 Blog HitsI’ve been blogging for a shade less than 11 months now and, considering I’m not on Facebook or Twitter, it feels like I made it to 10,000 hits pretty quickly. Thank you to everyone who has been following my blog, and especially those who have been here from the very beginning! I wouldn’t be here without the likes and the comments from all of you.

Now… if each of you will tell two friends, and they tell two friends… and so on… and so on… (as that famous shampoo commercial once demanded) then we will all have successfully united the world in unifying annoyance with me! 🙂

And now, with that self-celebration out of the way, I return you to your regularly scheduled programming… which, actually, is nothing until later tonight when it is time to post the Monday episode of ‘Sects!
