Inktober 2017 Part 4

I’ve been a little lazy about posting on the blog, and maintaining my comic strips lately, but I have been busy with Inktober at least! For the fourth week in Inktober 2017, I continued making new 2.5×3.5-in. sketch cards. Check out the Troy Library Mini-Con, Week One, Week Two, and Week Three posts to see all of the previous work I’ve done so far this year for Inktober. Also remember to visit the Inktober Web site to learn more about the concept.

Inktober Week Four:

The Wolfman

Dracula

The Mummy

The Invisible Man

Leatherface

Jigsaw

Elvira

So, I started off this week with more Universal Monsters inspired cards: The Wolfman, Dracula, the Mummy, and the Invisible Man. Of this group I feel like the Mummy most resembles Boris Karloff as it should. The others are close, and Dracula is good, but I only feel like I nailed the Mummy like I wanted. I finished up the week with some more modern scary folk: Leatherface, Jigsaw, and Elvira. I’m happiest with Jigsaw and Leatherface. Elvira feels more like I drew an attractive woman cosplaying as Elvira and less like the true Cassandra Peterson version. Still, all told, I’m pleased with my efforts this week. Just a few more days to go and I can say I made it through the month intact and surpassed my inaugural effort last year! Stay tuned…

Elsa Lanchester as the Bride of Frankenstein

My monster was feeling a bit lonely, so it seemed only fitting to draw him his bride as well. She is not quite so monstrous, but still intimidating all the same.

Bride of Frankenstein

I’m much more familiar with Elsa Lanchester in later roles, so I keep forgetting her alongside Boris Karloff in the Universal Pictures classic, Bride of Frankenstein. As I was drawing this picture, it struck me that there’s a bit of a resemblance between her and Anne Hathaway. It might not completely come through in my illustration, but check photographs of young Elsa and see if I’m right or just going insane.

Boris Karloff as Frankenstein’s Monster

Earlier in the week I posted a funny that I had created earlier this month. Before I could create that funny bit, I had to draw a proper monstrous bit. The time of the season and all, it seems appropriate for Frankenstein’s Monster to be lurking around, no?

Frankenstein

This is how you get ahead in art… by drawing one! 😉 This illustration is very much inspired by Boris Karloff’s portrayal in the classic Universal Pictures movies. The look is so iconic that it’s really hard to separate Karloff from the monster at this point. More Halloween-themed fun coming soon!

Is Your Franken-Sense Tingling?

So, last week I had an idea for something I thought would be funny. It’s a Christmas and Halloween Marvel Mash-Up, featuring Frankenstein’s Monster and Spider-Man!

Franken sense

Once again I was surprised to not be able to find another version of this already existing online. I can’t believe I’m the first or only one to think of this glorious pun, but I might be the first to get it online… If you want to have additional Christmas fun with this one… you can imagine him muttering “myyrrrrhhhh!” 🙂
