So last year was a banner year for instances of Friday the 13th on the calendar… three times I graced my blog with variations on the theme. I made a Jason hockey mask, followed that with a battle-damaged variant, and completed the trilogy with my Jason X mask illustration. We only get one crack at the event this year, so I decided to go in a slightly different direction…
The pun is an obvious one… pretty sure I didn’t invent it or anything… but I liked the idea of writing in the ketchup and using that final fry in the message as well. Just so nobody thinks I forgot, good old Jason Voorhees is there too, loving his potato handiwork! Unrelated, but once at a Golden Corral restaurant back in the day, I wrote a waitress’ name on my plate sculpted from the mashed potatoes. I think I was too embarrassed to go back there again and see how that went over, though. 🙂
This one was pretty straightforward so I didn’t do any preliminary sketching… just went straight to the digital work. You might think I’m pleased with my renderings of different french fry bits… but I’m actually most proud of the plate. I tried something a little different in the shading and I think it really made the plate pop out as an almost realistic looking dinner plate.
Please let me know what you think, and be careful out there today! Also, remember, if you’d like an original commission by me or would like to hire me as an Illustrator, please use the Contact page and let me know as much as you can about your request.
