‘Sects Sunday 04/24/2016

SECTS 370SObviously, or perhaps if I did things right not so obviously, this was not the original Sunday plan. It was definitely going to continue from last Sunday and the Bill & Ted part remained the same… but when I was younger, I used to like to have conversations with people using only familiar song lyrics. It’s amazing sometimes how much of an actual conversation you can have with someone if you have the same taste in music. So, anyway, with Prince still floating in my brain I reworked today’s episode to incorporate as many lyrics as I could while still hopefully telling the story I wanted to tell. Oh, and I won’t forget about that little nugget dropped in the first story panel (after the movie poster homage) by Buzz… it means something.

  1. Always interesting to hear how other people have misheard lyrics… or to find out you yourself are mishearing them. There are some truly bizarre and hysterical examples of misunderstood lyrics over the decades. Now excuse me while I kiss this guy 😛

    1. Yeah, In addition to carrying on conversations with real lyrics, we also used to get together and try to figure out how we each thought we were hearing the lyrics. It was also fun sometimes to try and guess how someone else might misinterpret them differently.

      1. It was a very nice tribute to Prince that fit perfectly with the tone of your ongoing tone of your ‘Sects comic strips. Thank you for a funky time 🙂

  2. Great take on so many famous lyrics, all by the one artist

    1. Thank you. I tried to only use ones that made sense to the story I planned on telling. It was funny how easily some of them fit the narrative and added an extra layer to things.

      1. Layering is a good description. It certainly did

        1. I hoped it came across as natural, since I do parodies and homages all the time anyway. I hope that if I pick up new readers the first time on a post like this, that they appreciate what I tried to do AND they check out some earlier work and realize I was doing it because I’m a legitimate fan of his work and not just trying to ride the coattails of the current news… though admittedly, current events often play a part in directing the narrative to my strip since I want to have people identify with the characters.
