You know, this tardis idea is pretty cool. How did you come up with it in the first place?

I am a long-time Doctor Who fan… but that’s just a happy coincidence. My original vision for this comic strip was a bit different from how it evolved. I originally envisioned it as being a bit more serious, perhaps more political and current-event related as well… but as I started writing for the different characters, I started to get different ideas, especially for Buzz. One day Buzzarro happened, and I ran with that but I skipped a Sunday edition because I felt it would have interrupted the flow at the time. So, that kept bugging me that I had skipped a day… and I started thinking “too bad there’s no time travel or I could go back and do one now.” And all this happened around Easter time and I did the bit about Buzz going to Easter Island and I started thinking about the origin of those mysterious heads… and it just all sort of kept growing from there. I realized that letting my characters drive the direction has probably been the best thing I did as it really opened up a world of possible stories. I embraced the crazy and the silly, while still trying to punch in some semi-serious stuff now and then. It didn’t hurt that one of the main characters in Back to the Future was named Marty McFLY either 🙂 so it kind of made sense that IF time travel was possible, it would be the fly that could do it.
