Where My Star Wars Fans AT-AT?

I’ve been a little lax lately about posting artwork besides my comic strips, but rest-assured I have been drawing lots of other things. I’m going to try and play catch-up, starting with this week’s Star Wars inspired illustration… The All-Terrain Armored Transport (AT-AT) Walker, made famous by Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

AT-AT FinalI worked on this almost non-stop for a day, then a few hours the next. I lost track of time, but I expect I put at least ten hours into all the details for this one. It’s probably the most complicated illustration I’ve done this year since my Dalek drawing. This is in the Technical Illustration style, which suits the design of the AT-AT. I also hope to use this in some of my comic strips in the near future, as I have a couple of horrible puns and gags that formed in my mind while I drew this… so be on the lookout for some painful comedy coming soon!

Please let me know what you think, and remember, if you are interested in requesting my services as a Technical Illustrator, please use the Contact page and provide me with as much information as you can about your request.

  1. This looks straight out of a cartoon! What do you mean by technical illustration?

    1. It’s drawn much in the same way that you’d draw a piece of equipment in a technical manual and with a lot of attention to detail… as opposed to sketching with a pencil and drawing more loosely to get the overall shape without the super-details.

    1. Thank you. I was pretty proud of this one. Hopefully you found my R2-D2 and BB-8 illustrations as well. I keep meaning to draw C-3P0 but never have gotten around to him yet.

    1. Looks like you found them! 🙂

  6. I suspect C-3P0 will be quite detailed. Especially the arms and lower abdomen.

    1. Yeah, I think that’s part of why I keep putting him off… lots of detail and exposed wires to put in there to get to a similar level of detail for the precedent I set for myself.
