As promised, and not necessarily because you demanded it, I am revisiting the Jason hockey mask I drew for this past February’s Friday the 13th. I have dirtied it up a little with a general browning to the overall mask, then added some scratches and dirt in a few places. I also dented the nose, cracked the mask at the top, and added some blood stains to go along with that.
What’s interesting about this illustration to me is… that there is a tremendous difference between damaging a real-life hockey mask and rendering one realistically as a computer image. No artwork ever feels done, but the more I tweaked and fooled around with this the less it worked for me… so I actually ended up making quite a bit fewer alterations than I initially thought I might.
Please let me know what you think… and if you want to compare with the clean version, please visit last month’s Friday the 13th blog entry. We have a trilogy this year, with another Friday in November. I’m hoping to have a reasonably decent rendering of the Jason X mask by then. Stay tuned!
